When you support the Lobo Cancer Challenge, all the fundraising dollars stay right here, to help people right here, in our community and our state. Thanks to our generous sponsors, 100% of the funds raised by participants in the Challenge go directly to support cancer patient care, research, community outreach, and education and training at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This fundraising event helps us to deliver the best cancer care in the world. We are deeply grateful to our community for their tremendous support in helping all New Mexicans facing cancer.
Why I support the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center
It is the only comprehensive cancer center in our state (and region) designated by the National Cancer Institute as one of only 51 NCI Comprehensive Cancer Centers, in the top 3% of the nation's elite cancer centers.
UNM Cancer Center offers our region's most comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment, with more than 140 cancer physicians and surgeons in every cancer specialty and more than 500 staff. It provides treatment for nearly 60% of the adults and the majority of children affected by cancer in our region, who come from every county in New Mexico and many states across our nation.
It conducts world-class research to discover the causes and the cures for those cancers that most frequently affect New Mexicans, as well as providing community-based cancer education and screening programs.
UNM Cancer Center physicians and scientists have translated their discoveries into new and more effective treatments for breast and ovarian cancer, leukemias and other blood cancers, melanomas and brain tumors, and many other types of cancer.
It offers access for all New Mexicans to new drugs and therapies in cancer clinical trials in a statewide collaborative network called the New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance.
UNM Cancer Center has the region's only Phase I Unit, offering access to the most advanced treatment and newest cancer drugs, including new immunotherapies and cell based therapies, as well as cancer precision medicine and targeted treatments derived from genomic sequencing.
UNM Cancer Center trains over 200 cancer physicians, scientists, pharmacist, and nurses every year, contributing to New Mexico and our nation's health care workforce.
I ride in the Lobo Cancer Challenge to support these critical missions!
