This year I have decided that I will be joining the Lobo Cancer Challenge. The goal of this is to raise money to help fight cancer (more info below). I will be riding 25Miles on a bike in honor of all my family members who have fought a hard fight against cancer.
The reason I have chosen to do this is because cancer has had a HUGE impact on my family and my life. My grandfather aka Big Daddy has had more cancers than I can count. He is an amazingly strong man that has always fought through it.
However, the first time I truly remember hearing the word cancer was when my other grandfather aka Pop Pop was diagnosed with lung cancer. The memory of walking through school and hearing my mother's name get called to the office is when I knew that Pop Pop had passed away. The moment came when my mother showed up in my classroom to tell me it was time to go and we went directly to be with family. I wish I could say this was the only time that cancer reared its evil head in my life but sadly that is not the case.
Big Daddy has had more cancers than I can even count. He has never been alone through any of the hundreds of hours in the hospital, doctor visits, tests and all the recovery. My grandmother aka Mamaw has been right by his side dropping everything to make sure he has all he needs and is never alone. Looking back at his life, I am in awe at how positive and inspiring he is, even with all the cancer he has gone through.
The hardest time I was influenced with cancer was when my mom got diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer. She is very lucky that it got caught early, but it still was a long road for her. She was in and out of the hospital multiple times all while I was still in high school. I would get out of school and drive directly to go spend time with her. Even with everything she was going though, she made sure she would always ask about my day and help me study for my finals. I am so happy that she is still cancer free and that is why I am riding the 25miles for her.
There have been many other family members who have fought cancer but at this point I feel like I am droning on and on. So I ask that you donate toward this cause that is very dear to me. Anyone who knows me, knows it would have to take something very special to get me to ride 25miles on a bike, but this is one of those special things.
Thank you to all who donate or for those who send me good vibes and words of encouragement.
Here is the write up that the challenge provided and gives a little more detail where the money will go.
